More than just a choir!
Our rehearsals take place in the middle of the day and are primarily attended by older and more vulnerable members of the Old Swan and surrounding communities. The mid-morning rehearsals allow the local residents an opportunity to attend a social group at a time where they may feel more secure.
This community goes beyond just the choir rehearsals. The members often spend some time after rehearsals, enjoying a cup of tea and a slice of cake and talking about their week. This gives many of our members more opportunities to socialise, talk, and share their experiences. It is from these friendships that a support network that checks in on each other is built, which is something essential to many of our members. For some of our members this may be their only social contact with the wider community outside of their families.
We hope that with time, and with greater community visibility that we will be able to do more work within the local area. The long-term goal of being able to collaborate with Youth Projects to promote cohesion and understanding between different social and demographic groups will be more achievable with a greater community presence, and funding.
